Herodotus claimes that Psammis (Psammetic II) reigned for six years during which time he fought one campaign against the Ethiopians. He was succeeded by his son Apries
He also recounts the events of a visit by the envoys of Elis (a Greek state) to the court of King Psammis. The envoys boasted that the Olympic games they had arranged were the fairest games to be held anywhere in the world and not even the Egyptians could do any better than that. The King responded that as the athletes of Elis would clearly have a home advantage the games could not really be described as fair if they were allowed to take part.
